The easiest way is to obtain one of the shop manuals. Most have exploded views of the brake systems. Manuals are available from advertisers on this web site or from your local tractor/farm supply stores. You might try the local library.

Good luck. Replacing the brakes on the WD is a real pain.

Gene"s right with the shop manual (IT)...if you don"t have one you should because it will surely come in handy at another point besides brakes. (These old work horses are tired and often need a little R & R to keep them happy.)

I suggest you simply look at the set-up on another WD or WD45...There are lots and lots of them out there. Most folks I"ve run across that are into the relics are friendly and helpful. Getting to the top of the brakes on the left (foot clutch side) is an easy couple of bolts. I believe most guys would let you take a peek if you listened to a story or two about their old tractor. You"ll surely figure it out when you see the set-up.

It sounds like you got the tractor with the brakes removed? This is actually a blessing! The worst part of a WD brake job is removing the pin that holds the brakes together. This pin inserts through the side of the rear housing and is held in by a shim and bolt...this pin can be seen through the "mouse hole" directly underneath the top housing access...(I say mouse hole for a reason) Many of these old tractors have never had a brake job and the pin is hopelessly frozen in place...the only thing that works for me is cutting the pin then jar it loose to remove...and this is a real fun job because your only access is the mouse hole.

The question is do you have all the parts? If you infact do the job isn"t bad. Explaining how it goes together verbally would take a very long essay...no time for that. 1 pic = 1,000 words.

Good Luck
Steve
