I"ve got a 1950 WD that I have just discovered
to have what looks like not enough oil pressure to run on.

I took the factory gauge off that had always been on it and put on a late model gauge that shows the
oil pressure in pounds and it registered between
5 and 10 lbs. I took the oil filter off and the oil lines off and checked for blockages but found none.

What next? I would appreciate your knowledge of this problem.

Boys, Thanks for the advice. But the one piece
of advice that came that I can go to the bank with
came from Ronnie, out in Texas.

My WD is used regularily for light work and was only rebuilt about 10 years ago for the 1st time.
So I figured it was already in good shape.

I took the new NAPA 1011 oil filter off and installed a new FRAM C159 oil filter from my local auto parts store, started the WD and waited for the new oil filter to fill with oil (about 2-3 minutes) and the oil pressure came up about 10 lbs or so for a total of about 15-18 lbs.

According to Ronnie the NAPA filter was reengineered and when they did, it now becomes unusable for me. The point is ...The WD needs the back pressure to build up oil pressure enough to put sufficient pressure into the oil galleries and bearings. A WD oil filter has a cotton type fill that does just that, the NEW NAPA filter does not make back pressure like the other oil filter does.

I"m going to my local NAPA and let them know about it.

When I first got my WC it had very low pressure. I changed the oil and filter, still had low pressure. When it was time for the teardown, the oil pan was full of dirt and sludge. Just enough tunnels around the pickup screen to get oil. About 2+ inches of solid junk. Cleaned out the pan and cleaned the pickup screen. Put it back and now the gauge is almost pegged to the max point.

7-10 pounds is the norm for the older AC tractors-nothing to worry about. There is an issue with some filters-they register zero. Put on the right filter and if the gauge registers, you have pressure.

if you are still worried, you could shim the spring in the oil pump. 1/8"-3/16" will increase it,then you wont have to worry about any filters.

I have a WC speed patrol which has the same engine, and up till this year the engine tah was in it had no/zero oil preassure on any guage I tried. Ran it for more then 5 years that way I figured one day it would blow but it never did. This last year I got a good deal on a Wd tractor with a good engine so I did a swap. Still have to old engine don't really know what I'll do with it but, you might try running say a 50W oil in it and see if it helps

The WD does not have a lot of oil pressure to begin with some where around 15 lbs. If you are getting 5 to 10 lbs that might be all your going to get. I would change filter brands to see if the oil pressure comes up a bit.

If your rocker arms are getting oil, I would operate the tractor. I have 2 WDs and after a couple of hours operation they only have 5 to 7 lbs oil pressure.

What is the filter brand you"re using? A Major company recalled all the filters for these tractors because of a pressure related problem and won"t be any new ones from them this summer. Dale
