Generally speaking should I expect higher oil pressure with a higher viscosity oil? I live in Texas and thinking I may be better of using 40 wt in my 38 WC versus 10W30. My pressure is very low at present and the oil filter is not the culprit.I would like to try something easy before spending a bunch of money. Thanks

15w40 maybe? That sees use in alot of diesel engines so you can get a real good heavy duty oil like Delvac that should do just fine in your machine.

The only problem with the higher weight oils is that the oil pump doesn't pick it up as quickly. That was the idea behind the multiple visc. oils. I do the same thing on older equipment with marginal oil pressure. Watch out on start up because it doesn't take a whole lot to take an engine bearing out.

Had a low oil pressure concern on my WF. Was running 30 wt at the time. Switched to 20W-50 and darned if she doesn't have oil pressure when she is hot now! Been doing that to older engines for 30 years so could not see why it would not work on an old Allis to and it did!

Up here in northeastern Indiana, i usually run 30W in all my tractors, and it works fairly well. I run gastrol gtx 10W30 in my farmall 560, and it gets about 50lbs of oil pressure when she gets warmed up and stays there. Being that your down in a lil warmer area, 40W should be about the right oil for a WC. I usually get about 12-16 pounds of oil pressure in my WC's engine, warmed up, or cold.

With you being down in tex, you could probably get by with a 50W oil, I use valvoline 40 and 50W raceing oil in my tractors. I have/had an engine in a WC-speed patrol with no oil preassure and it ran for about 5 years that way and would probably still run. Got a chance to get an engine/tractor with good preassure and did a swap only because it, the old engine was getting weak.

You could use a 40 wt oil in your WC considering the season and where you live. Most of these old engines ran very low pressure on the gauge. If the gauge moves at all when hot, you"re fine.
