I rebuilt the M-S carb on my WD45 and the needle won't close causing the engine to flood while running and ALOT of gas to leak when I shut it down. The head of the needle valve has a little wire "retainer" on it which sometimes seems to get hung up on the top of the seat not allowing the needle to seat properly. What is this retainer for? Could I remove it and re-adjust the float to the correct height? Has anyone else had this problem and successfully removed it? Thanks.

I would take the retainer clip off. It has to have the right float for the retainer clip. Someone may have put the clip on there or changed the float sometime to other type. It's to pull the needle back open when float goes down.
