D-15 sII gen. problem

I picked up a 1965 D-15 se.II the other day and i see the amp gage is reading backward, this tractor has ben setting for 5 or 6 years, do you think some one put the batt. in backwards or what, Ive not polerised (sp)a gen, in years, where do I start with this one?

i would assume somewone switched it to negative ground. see if the neg battery terminal is connected to the frame. the positive was original connected to frame. --- if it is negative ground, that is o.k. apparently they have changed the voltage regulator or polarized the old regulator ( if it was a dual purpose). my suggestion would be to change the wires on the amp meter so it reads the "other direction". if you want to repolarized to positive ground, change the battery terminals back to positive ground, then with the key on, touch the B and G terminals together on the regulator, small spark, then start tractor and check ampmeter.

Steve; thanks for the come back, I did get a chance to peek under the hood to day, and there is a nice fresh 12 volt batt. hooked up neg ground, thanks again for the information about getting it polariized, Ive not had to do that for years and was not sure about it.
