Removing D17 oil pan

When I went to take the oil pan off my 1958 D17, I noticed that the power steering ram was blocking access to a pan bolt. Someone told me you have to take the whole front end of the tractor off, but is there a way to just remove the ram???

Eric, About a year ago I was asking the same question. My D17 also has power steering. I had to remove the front end of the tractor so as to keep the power steering unit in tact. You have to follow the IT manual step by step and it will go quite smoothly. It is just time consuming.

Erik: There is no way to remove just the ram without first removing the front support. They solved this problem on the later D17 by using a bolt with an allen head in this location. There was just enough room to get a long allen wrench past the ram to get the bolt out. Good luck. Gordon
