D 12 Series 3 serial #

I'm visiting again from the Farmall board and need a little help.
A lady friend is trying to find a serial number on a D 12 but without much luck.
I have been told that it is stamped on the torque tube near where it meets the engine on the left side, ...on a flat spot at about the 10 o'clock position
Is this the correct location?
I am assuming the stamped letters are maybe no more than 1/4 high....
Or....is there a plate somewhere?

The D tractors had the numbers STAMPED in the location you describe. The stamping indents them into the casting. Should start with D and the model number, then ..... .Oftentimes the area is filled with paint. Kind of hard to read.
