The original fastener was a slotted truss head machine screw. They differ from a regular screw in that the head diameter is larger. Probably not going to find them at a hardware store but you can order them at a fastener house or through McMaster Carr. They are 5/16 coarse thread, I believe the box I have is 3/4" long. Dont go too long as Steve said, you can also crew the top two through the radiator causinga big leak.

ACE HARDWARE STORES has them in the slide out fastener boxes by the each. At least the one I go to does. Not the cheapest place to buy them but 8 of them of them at a time don"t seem to break the pocket book.

hood bolts are 5/16 dia, about 3/4 or 1 inch long. watch the two on each side middle of the radiator. too long will get close to the fan blades. i have heard of guys putting long bolts into the fly wheel housing then "no crank" so i guess you can get them too long and they do go thru. bolts should go into a hole 1.5 times the diameter of the bolt, so a 5/8 bolt should have 15/16 of thread. a 1 inch bolt should have 1.5 inches of thread, etc. that is good engineering, most are lucky if you have 1 times.
