Jeff pretty well said it all. No one thing applies to all tractors. I pull a stock tractor and it pulls well , but only once have I ever been in first. When I think I have it figured out, I do terrible and then when I don't care I do well. Tires , track and hitch are the key factors. Just keep trying until you get it right.
Any more 4 and 5th's would look good to me.

if your pulling in farm stock with a speed limit and can go that fast without losing any power then it ia a question of the tight tires, weight, and balance. Believe it or not you might have too much power also. I pulled Saturday and had to back out of the throttle to keep from spinning out but it was an extremly hard track.

Friend of ours has a WD with a combine motor in it although he does have a governor on it. He did fair with the standard 16.9X26? tires, The short ones. he went to a set of 13.6X38's and pulls from 3500-5000 with no problem. More HP osn't do alot of good unless you can get it to the ground and if your not bogging out you have enough.
