I recently bought a allis chalmers tractor. I,m not sure of the year and the decals on the tractor show that it is a "B". But the serial # is C30641. Does the "C" in the serial number represent the model? Its a very nice tractor with adjustable front axle and a sickle mower. It looks like some one painted it over the years. Please help me findout the year and model. Thanks

The C means the tractor is a C. The number indicates late 1944.

the B and C share the same motor, clutch, transmission, bevel gear -pto housing, hood, gas tank, and radiator. the C has a wider rear axle housing. --- the C in the serial number indicates the transmission came from a C tractor. other indicators of a C are the steering gear box below the gas tank has its arm pointing up, a B points down.--- the steering rod on a C goes to another angle gear box below the radiator, the B goes to the front left wheel king pin.--- THe outside wheel width of a C is normally about 70 inches, the total width of the B is under 60 inches. Both tractors have 24 inch rear wheels. THe C rear wheels have 5 lug bolts, the B may have the 5 bolt pattern, bot most have 1 large 2 inch nut in the middle holding the hub onto a splined shaft.

I've been around these discussions more than I like. If a tractor has parts from various tractors, what is it? The simplest answer is to follow the manufacturer. Allis intended a tractor with a C on the transmission to be a C. Whatever other parts which have been replaced will not alter that C.
