I have several mags for Allis tractors & was wondering what is the easiest way to test them?

My dad used to have me hold a wire while he rolled it over. I guess that is cruelty by todays standards.

I put mine in a bench vice with a piece of wood between the mag and jaw. Then I put a spark plug wire in a hole and crank over the impulse with a pilers while holding on to the insulated part of the spark plug wire and holding the metal part of the wire a short ways from the base of the vice. This will tell you if you have spark on impulse.
