Gas engine for a D-17 Series III

I have been told that certain AC 4 cyl. combine engines will work in a AC D17 Series III wheel tractor! Can any one help with this question?
Also I need a used engine for a AC D-17 Series III tractor!!

I have a D17 motor that I am going to sell.I bought it to put in my WD but I have change my mind. Its all rebuilded ready bolt in. New pistons,rings, sheaves,rebuild starter,exmanfold and water pump.

I've heard the same thing and also been told some of the Gleaner combine engines will also work

 The engine will even fit in a WD 45 in reply to JMS/MN, 05-22-2005 14:26:56  
The water pump is diferent and the carb linkage comes from the front. Also the only place to fill it with oil is on top of the valve cover.

Agreed, and isn't there also an issue of a fuel pump on the E engine- which gets removed because it is not needed with the gravity fuel tank on the tractor?
