I may have to replace or rebuild my carb on a 48 C. Is it worth spending more money and getting a new Zenith Carb or should I just rebuild the original ???

Thanks!

I agreee with Denny. Don't blast it; soak it in carburetor cleaner. BUT BE SURE YOU REMOVE AND SAVE THE ROUND TAG that has the part numbers on it. Whether you blast it or use carburetor cleaner, the tag won't survive.

I put a Zenith on my C about four years ago and I love it. I mow appox. 4 1/2 acrs. once a week and it has yet to give me any problem. The Marvel was giving me fits that's why I replaced it.

I don't like the sound of "sand blast" when talking about carbs. I don't think there is any positive benefit to sand blasting carbs. Maybe if it is completely assembled, sandblasting could clean the outside. Of course, this won't have any impact on the operation of the carb. Sand is an angular and hard material known as silicon (actually silicon dioxide). In this form, it is almost innert to any solvent. If you get this sand in any passage, you may never get it out and the carb will be useless. Never use anything other than solvents on a carb. I wouldn't even consider it on the outside because of the possibly getting that blasted stuff where it shouldn't go!

But I do agree. Rebuild the existing carb.

rebuild of the original must be much cheaper unless it is a pile of rust.--- cleaning out the ports, new gaskets, chekcing float, etc dont cost much. you will not get more HP with a new carb.--- HP is more related to engine speed and displacement, not the carb.

The original is good enough to sandblast and rebuild...just wasn`t sure if the Zenith would help with power and you answered that....thanks!
