I have just acquired a model C tractor in running condition, but noticed that when I started out in 2nd gear, it popped out to nuetral. I removed the right side plate and found all gears in very good condition. It operates in all gears, even 2nd , but you have to hold shifter in that position.
I have a model B manual but wonder if any one can give some advice as to proper adjustment. Thank You. dean

The side panel you removed has four forks one for each gear. you first need to make sure that your second gear shifting fork is not broke. If it looks good you need to free them up, i believe that they are held in with c-rings. Also if the tractor has not been ran in a while the gears need oil on them. I know i just got done with a CA transmission that was stuck. Cleaning the forks and letting a heavy weight oil run on them should free it up and allow it to shift in and hold.
