I have a early sixties B-1 with a model 19 Briggs and Stratton. It will run for a few minutes and then stop. It seems to have good compression when u put your finger on it with slow bleed off. It was rebuilt a long time ago. Anyone have ideas about what the problem could be. Thanks

If this is a B&S Model 19, I would check the coil. I have had many of these engines with bad coil thatwould run ok at slow speed and run poorly at high speed. It is always the coil which is B&S P/N 290880. Cost $100.00 from B&S. Available from China for $30.00 or you can modify a late B&S coil to work on this engine as I do all of mine. I have a complete set of B&S naumber engines with this coil used on Models 9 thru 23. Look in next month"s, I think, Gas Engine Magizine for an article decribing the modification which I developed.

The motor is a 1961-1965 and will idle up to max rpm without a problem when it gets gas or when you spray something in the carb. I saw a Brigg & Stratton Magnetron Kit Part# 394970, on>Link
is>Link that what i would need to convert it?

I do not think the Magnetron kit will work but need Model No., Type No., and Code No. from the engine to know for sure. Do you know if the coil is under or outside the flywhell. If it is outside the flywheel it will be a three legged coil and the Magnetron will not work. If it is unber the flywheel the Magnetron will not work. The Magnetron kit will only with the two legged coil which is external to the flywheel. You coil or condenser could still be getting hot and failing. If this is the engine I think you have, the point cam on the on the camshaft has an advance mechanism on it but really need the numbers to be sure.

type number is 706055
serial- 672805

The autoparts store said $100 for the coil. Can you tell what year the motor is?
