They just take a cotter key. The correct diameter cotter key that is. It might have a drive shaft with a universal in it. If they get stuck out of alignment it might cause a problem. The newer drive shaft with out the universal will work with out a problem and you can get them from an Allis scrap yard.

wonder what he is using for pins? hardened factory pins, or just cold roll? never heard o a pin breaking. i would split the tractor (needed anyway to repair), then check runout on the clutch and throwout bearing, also the back end on transmission input shaft bearing. next mount the drive shaft in a lathe and check for woarp or bend. pin should not break unless something is way out of spec.

Thanks Steve, I don't know what type of pin he used but he said sometimes it will last a month and sometimes just a few days. Do i split it at the engine or trans? Also are these parts hard to get? Thanks alot for your help. Stewart

you will need to split at the motor so you can see the flywheel and clutch area. the drivshaft slides into splines on the clutch. you should remove the torque tube from the transmission so you can see the back end. driveshaft slides over the trans shaftspline and as Dick said, just a cotter pin in this area. cotter pin can hardly "break" i assume you are taling about the pin in the old universal joint.

How did you make out with new pin. I have ticking noise in same area as universal joint and wonder if am starting to see your problem. Did you find a miss alignment when you split it?
thanks
