I visited a local auto junkyard the other day and spotted an AC engine. I do not know what it is. Here is what I do know. It is a 6 cylinder, propane engine. It is suppose to run or it did two years ago. It came off of an oil rig. Does this engine have any worth? I hate to see good things scrapped if I can help it. Any ideas of how many horse it could be? How many cubes? Did these engine fit in any tractors? I will probably go back some time in the next week, I will look for some ID numbers if it is absolutely necessary for identification. Bucyrus Erie used allis chalmers 6 cylinders in there large cable tool rigs back in the early 50-late 60's. We have a model 60-l, that was a former oil field machine, had a 6 cyl allis, not sure what size, but it was a gas job, i do know you could get that rig with a propane or lp setup, you could also get the diesel in that rig. We have since tossed the motor, but it was a gas, magneto driven through waterpump on side, flathead, and really ran good. Not too much help, but my .02$

OK, it's not quite as bad as asking what kind of dog is brown and has 4 legs.

So how is this for helpful: it could be a 262 ci engine like used in the D-19 or C-II Gleaners or it could be a 301 ci engine like in the 190, both were available from AC in LP gas form.

It won't be an engine like in the Gleaner A, that was a GM engine not an AC engine. It won't be an engine like in the WD-45 diesel, cause that was a diesel engine and not something that would run on LP. It could be a non ag engine, I don't know what all of them were.

If you are going to take a shot in the dark at a question like this, at least be correct about the information you do give.

My uncle bought a Gleaner Model A at an auction for salvage. It HAD a G 230 6 cyl. Allis engine on it. He sold it to someone who blew-up a G-262 to replace it. Do not tell me A"s only had Chevy engines. The A"a replacment, Model K, had the Chevy engine. Model F"s also. FYI the G-230 and G-262 use the same starter.

Could be a G-230 or a G-262. The G-262 was used on the C-II Gleaners. I have one which is LP fueled. D-19 used the 262 engine also. The G-230 was used on A Gleaners. I do not think they were stock in any tractor but i think you can put one in a WD by extending the frame.

The 230 was stock on the WD45 Diesel. that was what the diesel motor in it was, a 230 Buda diesel. If you can find a serial number on the block that would be helpful. It could also be a 301, they had LP versions on the 190xts on tractors, not sure about combines. Good luck on your search.

I saw a V8 Chevy engine once, any idea what it was? I also had a 7 hp B&S engine that ran right up until the time the rod broke and tore a big gash in the wall.

Oliver,

I always thought that when someone asked a question, and gave whatever details he/she had, that it should be taken seriously and dealt with appropriately. Jaker obviously wanted to know if Allis built more than one 6-cylinder engine - hence, if he needed to try for some ID numbers.

In other words, if you can only be a smart@$$, try keeping it to yourself.

it was the newer F's i believe that had the chevy gas engine, because we have an F with an Allis Chalmers engine.

I havn't ran a propane engine but what ive heard is that there a slower tracter but for field work there is no real disadvantage.

we also have a 180 allis with a propane engine, I know for fact its stock because my dad bought it new, but ive asked people about it and they think im crazy.(any information would be helpful)
