I have a 38 "unstyled" WC. I had the Mag rebuilt and now need to set the timing. So far I have not been able to find the timing marks on the engine.I removed the square plate that gives you access to the clutch but haven't found any timing marks there. Are the marks behind the lower plate in front of the bellhousing? Help!
Thanks

Pulley on front of crank shaft (fan belt pulley) - crank engine by hand until the bolt holding the pulley to the crankshaft is in the 10 o'clock position. The "F" fire mark should be visible at the bottom (back edge)of the flywheel.

You may also have a TDC mark on the flywheel. Put the bolt holding the fan belt pulley in the 12 o'clock position. This should put the TDC mark at the bottom of the flywheel.

Mark/s are probably covered with dirt and grease.

Don't look on the rear face of the flywheel, look directly on the outside edge ofthe fly wheel behind the ring gear. You should see an indentation that runs parallel with the tractor, and it should be the full length of the 1/2 inch lip. Have good light and make sure there's no grease build up covering it. Good luck
