I have just purchased a Deutz Allis 385 air planter and am having problems with it. Seed is getting in between the seed disk and the unit causing a gap big enough for the other seed to leak on the ground. What is causing this? I heard that if the steel wear ring was loose (not glued) to the plastic housing, seed would get under it and push the disk out. However, this seed is between the wear ring and the disk. I am 99% sure I have it set like the book says.

I've had a 385 for 10 years and had that problem before. If the metal ring and wear pad are in good shape, then it's possible the seed disk is not tight enough. There are metal washers on the inside of the disk. If there are none then I would say the disk is getting to thin. The other possibility is the seed size doesn't match the disk, causing two seeds to get in one pocket. But the most common problem is the disk is not tight enough.
