Help, I am stuck. I need an unbias opinion. I have a 1939 Farmall H and am thinking about selling that and buying a 1951 AC CA wide front with 3pt hitch. I can get the AC CA for a little more money than buying a 3pt hitch on my H. I need to know if these tractors are comparible in HP and other things. Can anyone help? I really like my H but am open to getting what I need to get the job done around the 20 acres. Thanks
Ed

Yeah, what wdtom said.
I grew up on a CA and they are a great tractor.
With only 20 acres to work it should be all that you should want.
For actually pulling things, the H with all that ballast will do better.
But put weights on the front and rear wheels and it will impress you.

The H will seem heavy and low powered for it's weight compared to the CA. It will have more traction because of it's weight though. The AC will need loaded tires and maybe weights to get close to the pulling power of the H. However it is a smaller, lighter, handier more nimble tractor, and if the clutch in the rear axle is working you can consider it has a sort of live pto and hydraulic power. This clutch "breaks" the right axle and will stop the tractor without using the main engine clutch, a sort of live power. The AC is a fine tractor, last of the B, C, CA line and probably the best. The H is also a good tractor, though of a design from almost 20 years earlier, and as I said a much bigger and heavier tractor, especially for the weight. It will run forever though.

The little Allis would be handier if you arent planning on any heavier pulling jobs, because the little Allis will bounce around on a load and spin a lot more than the H with 38 inch rubber.

I onced owned an H Farmall although I am a true Allis Man all the way now. I can't seem to remember the horsepower on the H's, however I believe they had in the upper 20's to very low 30's in horsepower. My manual states the the CA had 22.97 horsepower on the drawbar and 25.96 horsepower on the PTO/belt. Be careful when looking the CA over. Make sure all the gears work good and stay in gear. If memory serves correct, 3rd was bad to jump out. Also, the had clutches were known to give trouble. Hope this helps.

Shoot I'd keep the H and also buy the CA. That way you have 2 and when one is not running you have the other to fall back on. But I do have 20 plus tractors and I'm always looking for my next toy
