Allis Chalmers CA identify

I don't know much about Allis Chalmers tractors but I stopped to look at one locally. The guy told me it's a model CA but from the pictures I found here, all the CAs have a metal pan seat and this one I'm considering has a bench seat like the B model. This one has the two tire narrow front end and a side mounted sickle mower. Do you know if any of the CAs had the bench seat or if it was optional? Also any other things or parts I can look at to identify which model this is for sure? I don't have the # but I found out here that it's located on top of the transmission so I'll check that in the next day or so. From what I've read it sounds like the CA is more powerful and can do more than a B so I don't want to buy a B thinking it's a CA. Any help or tips are appreciated. Thanks

You are correct, The CA tested with 26.5 hp while both B and C had 19.5 hp. The B is a light weight but the C and CA are pretty similar in weight with any advantage going to the CA. As far as pulling, the CA usually has slightly larger tires, slightly more weight and can pull a bit more (plus the 4 speed transmission which is nice). It will be significantly better on PTO. I bought the CA thinking it could pull Cedar trees that I'd cut down and immedaitely discovered I didn't have enough weight. So it was either a bigger tractor (my choice a D-17 which is quite a jump but all I could find) or adding hard to find wheel weights. If it's running a 5 foot shredder that you're interested in, you have a good choice with a CA. Mine worked great for that.

A CA has a four speed transmission and Power-Shift rear wheels. B and C did not. CA might have a hand clutch on the right side of the rear axle, and a Snap-Coupler hitch.

the B,C, and CA basically use the same motor and radiator. THE CA and B had the 3 speed trans, the CA had a 4 speed. Started making B in 1938 till 1958. Started the C in 1940 and updated to the CA in 1950.---the B waas about 5 feet wide and wide front end and made for a 1 bottom plow. the C and CA were 6 feet wide with the same motor and were a few hundred pounds heavier and most were narrow front end and made for 2 bottom plows. serial number is by the shifter. CA was pan seat.
