How do I tell what series a D15 is??? The serial # is D153921D. This tractor is not running and I"m trying to determine its value as I don"t want to fix it up. It is a diesal wide fron with factory three point. The engine is stuck but the muffler has been covered. What is this tractor worth?

Joe

Anbother quick way to tell is headlights, series 1 had them on the grill, 2 were on the fenders. These could have been changed though, so best is serial number. As long as the motor isnt stuck, they are easy to get running, just minor ignition parts to go through, no big problem. You are able to get a rough idea on compression without it running, but unfortunately you cant tell the oil pressure. You should be able to feel if the gears are good if you have good feeling in your fingers without driving it by the way it engages and disengages the gears, a big problem for some of the early D series was 3rd and 4th gear. With half way descent tin, no major dents, and no cracks in block or head and tires that hold air, I wouldnt let a series 1 go for less than 1,000. I personally would invest the 100 in points, condensor rotor cap, and plugs and fluids and get her running. You will get your money back from the minor investment and much more. Where are you located at? Depending on location, I might be interested in taking a look at it. Shane

I should have read the whole post first I guess, didnt realize it was a diesel and you dont want to work on it. I Still wouldnt let it go for less than a thousand if tin is halfway descent with the Wf and 3 point. Being a diesel cuts production numbers down considerably and with WF even farther. Good collectors resto project. Where are you located? I might still be interested. Shane

QUICKEST WAY TO TELL IS BY LOOKING AT THE MUFFLER. SERIES ONE HAD ROUND MUFFLER, SERIES 2 HAD OVAL SHAPED

According to the serial number chart, under Research & Info, to the right of this screen, you have a 1961 D-15. The origianl D-15, sometimes refered to as a series 1 was built from 1960 thru 1962, and the D-15 Series 2 came out in 1963. Value, would be determined by what someone thinks it might take to get it running, or what it could be parted out for. I might consider such a tractor for $700 or so, depends on what condition the rest of it is in.

One like that some where around $150-500 and thats if the tires are good and the sheet metal is good.

YES but when you are buying a complete tractor no running like that one the price I put is about right. I have 10 or so that I have payed that price for because they where in that condition and some have wide fronts on them.
