I am a novice at old tractors, so please don't laugh at what may seem simple questions.On my 1950 Model B, the electrical circuits have been cut, taped, resoldered, rerouted to the point that it doesn't look anything like the wiring diagram in the serivce manual that I bought through YT magazine. It is a 6 volt battery ignition, positive ground. I want to leave it that way just because. Question 1: The 3 position light switch is gone, of course. I want to substitute toggle swithches since I can't find a a good original or new replacement light switch. One toggle will control the lights (on - off switch), and one toggle will control the charging rate (on - off - on)with one circuit being direct ground for high charge and with the other circuit with a resistor for low charge. Do you see any problems? Question 2: How do you alter the charge rate for my Delco-Remy 3 brush generator? The service manual points to a bolt on the back of the generator and says to loosen the bolt and move the third brush in the direction of rotation to increase the output. What do I move? I don't see anything moveable on the outside of the generator except a wide metal band. Is the third brush attached to that band, and is that what I move? I assume that I will adjust the charge rate with the 3 position toggle set at high charge (direct ground) until I achieve 10 - 12 amps. Question 3: What size resistor should I use to achieve the 10 - 12 amps at high charge and 3 amps at low charge? If I plug the numbers into Ohm's law, I get 2 ohms resistor (R=V/I or R=6 volts/3 amps desired or R=2 ohms). Is this correct? Question 4: I want to use a third toggle to control the ignition (on - off). Please verify my ignition circuit: The primary ignition wire will run from the negative terminal of the battery at the starter to the toggle switch to the coil to the distributor. Is this correct?
