Hello Guys. I am finishing up the restoration on my '57 D14 and am about ready to start on my 720D JOhn Deere. The guy I bought this D14 has some AC equipment that goes along with it, including the R80 mounted twin wheel drive sickle mower. My question is how does this thing mount to the tractor. It is a mounted mower, and according to Norm Swinfords book it will fit d series and wd and wd45, but i dont know what fastenes it to the tractor. Any pictures would be great. Also, the Bar is broke, are there any used parts out there for this thing or do i have to get tricky with the welder. By the way, the 2 bottom snap coupler plow and loader are the other implements that go with it.

There are some pictures of mounting an 80R mower to a tractor in the following link plus a picture of 2 brackets. The one on the right goes to my D-19 and the one on the left I have been told is for a WD/WD-45.

Yeah, mine is the rear mounted mower. I think somebody must have hit this thing with a snowplow when it was fronzr in the ground because the bar is snapped right off. Hopefully it can be welded back up

The drawbar is removed and a bracket is attached with the pins where the bail normally goes. Then the fingers of the mower frame attach to this with wedge pins. The mower is lifted by the RH rear lift arm. There is also a bracket that goes on the RH axle housing to which the balance spring from the mower attaches to with another pin. Parts are out there, gearbox parts and bearings can be expensive from AGCO!

If yours has a chain drive from the pto to the driveshaft, I would suggest replacing it with a belt drive. I had one a D17 in '72, and when the chain snapped, it wrapped around the pto and broke the shaft off. A belt would slip.

JMS I think you have the 80S (side mount mower) confused with the 80R (rear mount). The 80R only used a belt drive. The 80S used a chain drive to the shaft that went forward to the mower. I have to agree that a belt drive instead of the chain would have been quieter and probably safer. I'm sure AC used a chain drive because it would take at least 2 belts and larger sheaves to transmit the necessary power compared to a chain and sprockets.

You're right- mine was the side mount and the first poster is talking about a rear mount. I now have a side mount on the WD45, and this one uses a single heavy belt drive to the driveshaft that goes forward to the mower unit. It has white decals on it- would that be an 82?

82S used belts front and rear....has a cylinder mounted on the mower to lift it whereas the 80S used a cable system to the rear lift arms.

I'm looking for the rear drive ass'y, brackets and shields for a WD45 for an 82S if anyone has a parts mower out there. Someone stole those parts off of my mower.

I had to buy (what punishment!) a WD with chains and loader to get this mower, and it came with an extra bar and Twin Wheel drive assembly. I think it's missing all the parts you need. Had only one mounting bracket, too.
