AC model G fluid

What is the weight of the differential/transmission fluid for the Allis Chalmers model G? I looked in my reproduction manual and it said 20W transmission fluid. I know that can't be right. I assume 80W-90 gear lube would work but I don't like to just assume.

The 20wt recommendation is correct. THere is at least one bearing in the G transmission that is lubricated by oil thrown from an oil slinger. Thick gear lube won"t get there properly. One of the modersn trans-hydraulic oils would work great even if your G doesn"t have hydraulics on it.

80/90 would be fine without hydraulics, with hydraulics I"d use 30wt non-detergent

the transmission is about the same as a B ro C. original fill was 20 wt oil. new standard for most tractors these days is the universal hydraulic- transmission fluid. anything will work, even motor oil, but the hy-trans is non foaming, rust inhibitors, good for hydraulic systems, bearing lube, and it dont cost much either. it is a 20wt viscosity oil.
