I recently located an AC two row planter. I will be using a B to pull the planter. What do I need to look for on these planters to determine if it will be operational? I want to use the planter to plant soybeans, corn, milo, etc. for food plots. How important is it to have different seed plates? What do they look like? What is a reasonable price to pay? Thanks for your help in advance.

John (MO) got an excellent buy on his JD 290. They can sell high also. As for game food plots, I have good success using a broadcast spreader and disking it in, and not worrying about rows. I plant soybeans, millet, lespedeza that way, but not corn.

I've been seeing these planter sell for $300 to $400. They use to be $10 to $25 but the demand for food plot planters has drove the price. You need to make sure it is not froze up with rust, that all parts can be made to turn. Also you need to see that the planter shoes aren't rusted away. I had been wanting a AC planter for a few years but being a cheap guy, wasn't willing to pay the going rate. Bought a JD 290 planter with optional disk openers last week for $50. Nothing frozen up or rusted out on it. Different planter plates really aren't that hard to come by for most planters.
