1943 Model C Hydraulic Pistons won't retract

I recently restored my 1943 Model C. I made no modification to the hydraulic system other then replacing the hydraulic hoses. I then replaced the hydraulic fluid per specs. Upon first actuating the hydraulics, the pistons extended properly, but I can"t make them retract.

Any thoughts as to why this is occurring?

Have you tried lowering them by pushing on them. The cylinders should be single acting, which means that they are powered in only one direction and must be retracted be a load. Under normal use the wieght of the attachment will retract the cylinders. If you can't push them back in, make sure the hoses you replaced don't have a check valve built into them that would prevent the oil from flowing in the reverse direction.

I can not physically push them back in. I might try backing up to a tree or something?? They are both extended and I thought I remember that one would extend while the other was retracted and visa versa. I am sure the hoses do not have a check valve in them.

As best as I can remember the pump on my C only is a pressure pump and my one cylinder will not retract by the use of the pump.

Sounds like the pump may have a pressure releif valve sticking.
