I"m in the process of restoring a "49 A.C. G model. I was wondering if converting the system to 12 volt has any negative impact on the value of the tractor since it"s not the original system. Thank you.

Todd,
Converting to 12V is totally up to the owner or individual. I guess it really matter's on what your intentions are in using your G. Is it going to be for parades, or a regular working tractor? These are a couple things to take into consideration. Most owners that work a farm and use their machines all the time, reap the benefit's of a 12V system over the 6V. Main reason being the expandability of the system. If they work into the evening hours with their tractors, and extra auxilary lighting is needed for implements and such, the 12V system does have the advantage over the 6V. More optional lamps or work lights are offered in 12V, such as Halogen units therefore aiding in the night work. You also can have the reliability of an Alternator over a gennie to supply more electrical current when needed with the 12V system. The 6V system works fine if it's a resto or hobby tractor which isn't going to see big time everyday work and late night hours. We offer both a 6V replacement wiring system as well as a 12V Conversion for the little G. We also just came out with a new reproduction dash panel. As I said, the choice is really up to the owner and how the tractor will be used in my opinion. We also offer electronic ignitions for either system. Have fun with your restoration!
