I've got a 5050 4wd with a 4 cyl diesel. It is absolutely a 4 cyl. Is this a rare thing or what? Everybody I talked to says they only made 3 cyl.

You're probably aware that the A-C 5050 as well as a number of other 3 and 4cyl. tractors sold in the U. S. have been built in Italy by Fiat. I suppose a person could easily replace a bad 3cyl. Fiat engine with a 4cyl. Fiat engine, add the (longer) hood center section and drag link from the donor tractor and have a decent conversion that looks factory stock.

Thanks for the tip. If its as you say then somebody did a heckuva job. It looks all stock but does explain why the wiring is all cobbled up. It runs great-lots of power etc. Its just hard starting in the cold because no elec for glow plugs etc. Also somebody at a tractor auction told me that all these tractors were hard to start. He claimed the only way to fix it was with a new starter that supposedly "spun" twice as fast as the original factory starter? and cost around $800- Yikes!
