I have a 1950 wd and have been having trouble with it for some time now. At first I was not getting a spark and now can't get it to turn over all I get is the solinoid clicks and then nothing. I've replaced everything i can think of including rewiring the thing. The only thing that is wired different is it now does not go through a resistor prior to the coil like it was.

Joel,
If it's the OEM 6V system, make sure you have the correct size cables on the machine. Should be 1 gauge or larger. Also, once in a while a problem will arise with the starter switch contact assy. If it's tired out or burnt, there's usually a big voltage drop when trying to start the tractor. The switch may need to be renewed. Another overlooked problem is the starter not grounded correctly. Loosen the pinch bolt, pull out the starter motor and sand the nose cone where it makes contact with the housing. Sand the housing out also. Clean it up with Lacquer thinner or Brakekleen and reinstall the starter. She may crank right over. Also, make sure your battery is fully charged and in good shape. Have the battery draw tested to make sure it's condition is good under load. Make sure it is fully charged first, before the draw test. Weak battery and/or corrosion on battery terminals and where the battery cable connects to the ground.

Will the engine turn over with the crank or rolling the tractor in gear? If not starter may be stuck in the flywheel. To correct this problem loosen/remove the starter then reinstall.

Bad starter.

If you are using a 12 volt battery and alternator/generator you need the voltage drop (resistor) at the coil.
