The single acting cylinder (for the front end loader) on my WD has broken. I cannot find a replacement. Any help/clues on where to look?

If you can figure out the diameter and the stroke, www.agri-supply.com is the cheapest place that i have found to buy cylinders. They are however expensive to buy new. Repair is usually the best option. They aren't hard to take apart to determine the failure mode. Often, it is just seals which are relatively cheap. If the rod is damaged without the cylinder wall being damaged, someone may be able to fix that for you. If the cylinder wall is damaged, a new cylinder (or used - ebay has some all the time) will be necessary.

Often there is information on the cylinder identifying size. If there isn't, you can get stroke by measuring cylinder fully in and substracting that number from the measurement of fully out. If you pull the cap to investigate failure, you can measure the inside diameter to get bore.

Thanks for the link. I will add it to the long list of contacts I have. Repair of a stressed and broken threaded sleeve that would require re-threading does not seem plausible. Threaded areas are the weakest points. Ebay and most suppliers have clevis style cyliders and perhaps if no one here knows of a parts supplier for the configuration of a cylinder that has the hole attachment points then I will most likely be forced to refabricate the front end loader to accept the clevis style cylinder. DEEP SIGH here...no more rocks to throw :-< Thanks again.

You don't need to buy a whole loader just because one piece is bad. All you need is a cylinder- or maybe a rod. Check with local hydraulic shops and machine shops for either replacement cylinders or rods. Machine shops can buy rod stock and cut and thread what you need. Hydraulic shops can provide the 'O' rings and gaskets. I have three loaders that fit WD tractors but if you came to me with this problem, my advice would be the same- shop around to replace only the bad part. At the very least, you need to ID the loader/cylinder in question- maybe someone has the exact replacement if the loader is crapped out and not worth fixing.
