I have my Grand Father"s WF45 Ser# WF 6511. My brother restored it fairly well before he passed away and now it is in my hands. I have used it to pull a hay rake and wagon but would like to find more uses for it. I have heard of belly mount mowers and cultavators on other models. Can anyone tell what attachments were available for the WF? I"m hopping to use but not abuse the machine! Thanks Greg

There is no WF45 tractor, but if the serial number does start with WF, number 6511 would have been a Model WF built in 1949. It is the standard, or wheatland, version of a WC. No hydraulic system, will not mount a cultivator. Belly mower would be limited by the low-slung design of the tractor. Most parts interchange with the WC. Short wheelbase, fixed wide front tread If it is a WD, that serial number would indicate a 1948 model, but it would start with WD. It would have both hand and foot clutches, and hydraulic lift. Both had 6volt positive ground factory systems. The belt pulley runs only when properly engaged- no connection with pto operation. There is a setscrew in the tractor frame, above the pulley shaft. Loosen it until you can push the pulley toward the tractor to engage the gear. (Have the tractor shut off or the clutch lock in place to hold the foot clutch forward). When the pulley is engaged, retighten the setscrew. The pulley will run whenever the clutch pedal is in the engaged position.

If the belt pulley is original to the tractor, on the belt pulley housing there should be an index mark that you line up with a mark on the frame rail of the tractor to get the proper gear mesh. The housing has a series of divets drilled in a spiral pattern to allow the proper gear mesh.

Are you sure it isn't a WD45? Never heard of a WF45. And yes, all early AC machines had a 6V Positive ground electrical system on board. Positive ground cable attaches to the frame. Check to make sure the 3 position switch is grounded properly. This is what controls the charging rate of the system. If it has rust or paint under the switch, it's not grounding. One of the many popular charging problems.

I should also have asked if the positive terminal on the battery is supposed to be conected to the frame (groud)? I'm not getteing any charge. Also, with the PTO engaged, the pully wheel does not turn. Is there something else I need to do or is it broke and what should I look at to fix it? I have an IT manual if that helps. Thanks Greg

The I&T manual is for repair work on the tractor. The operator manual will describe all the controls, pulley operation, etc, along with lube requirements and basic service and specs.
