I converted a 1950 for my son-in-law. We used a 6 volt 60 amp one-wire alternator. All the original parts are saved (not modified) and a new mount and tension arm were made. Bored a Browning cast iron v-pulley to fit the alternator for a smaller pulley than is used on cars to turn the alternator faster. Now there are flashing warning lights on the rear for which the original generator could not supply adequate amperage. The battery stays up well now. An Allis B cranks quickly even with 6 volts. Nice job on yours.

Why convert? My 49B is still 6 volt as it should be, works just fine. Nothing wrong with 6 volt.

Why? Because it's my tractor and I wanted to. I have absolutely no interest in keeping it "as it should be", whatever that means. If you are happy with yours at 6V that's fine with me. I am not trying to convince you to change anything.

Ron,
I've alway's commented on how though of a job you do on your research & information and best of all your pics! Keep up the great work you're doing for folks here, and on the AC site. You are a tremendous asset to tractor fans all over! I especially enjoy the electrical info that you post being that's what my thing is. As I said, keep up the good work. BTW- I like your wiring style. Very neat, and from what I can see, good usage of plugs & connectors. Want a job? LOL!
