power steering for WD45

I have a WD45 and it steers real hard just wondering if anybody knows how to fix that or is that how they are or do they make a powersteering kit for the tractor any advice would be greatly appreciated. THANKS

I worked on a WD with a wide front for a man once and the steering was very stiff. I lubricated the front end and the problem went away

If you have a narrow front the main reason for it to steer hard is a bad bearing in the front pedistal. This bearing carries all of the front weight so it is likely yoour problem. AC did have factory power steering, but Char-lyn also made an aftermarket unit.

I have a WC, WD and WD-45. All of these use the same steering unit (except my 45 is wide front). None of these steer hard. If yours does, I'd first be certain the gear box in the front is filled with gear oil. Then I'd check those universals on the steering column to make sure none are frozen. If neither of these is a problem, you may need a major over haul of the steering box. Make another entry in here to say if yours is wide or narrow front. It makes a difference. Some newer 45's came with power steering. I know of no after market kits. Maybe someone else . . . .

If you have a Narrow Front the Carrier Bearing in the Pedestal is probably shot. Wide Fronts are not so critical on this Bearing as Narrows are. Char-Lynn made a after market power Steering unit for Wd and Wd45. Also check with Tractor supply. They may carry a unit for your Tractor.

it originally was a narrow front but the guy who owned it before me put a wide front on it i already went threw the knuckles in the steering shaft but have not yet opened the gear box maybe it is full of sludge possibly?

I'd lean toward the steering box if it is a wide front. You could also check the spindles to see that they are properly greased and free.
