found a D15 S2. Says it has a bad 3rd gear. Is that a common problem with them and is it hard to fix??? Thanks for the info.

The problem occurs in all D series AC's as well as the W series. Again, if people took care and shifted properly without grinding gears, then there is no problem. Just like people who ride the brakes on their cars, wear out their brakes, people who ground the gears on their tractors wore out the transmission gears. It's not really the tractors fault, it's operator error that causes many problems.

Very common problem with that tractor. will have to pull drawbar and support, wheels, fenders, seat rockshaft housing and both final drives. Then pull the trans from the rest of the tractor and you can rebuild it on a work bench. the pinion shaft comes out through the back so the diff assy. will have to be pulled out. They changed design of the gears, so if you cant find 3rd used, which you probably wont, you may have to replace 3rd on the pinion shaft, counter shaft, and the reverse idler as it meshes with 3rd gear also. I just went through this with my D14. Luckly I bought a parts tractor for 75.00 and all the gears i needed were good in that tractor.

It can be a common problem, if a previous user ground the transmission into gear everytime he shifted. If the transmission was shifted properly then it"s not a problem, obviously that"s not the case with yours though. You are going to have to replace a couple gears in the transmission, and they aren"t cheap.
