pleaes help 16yr old needs help putting allis chal

can any one help i had an allis chalmers given to me but needed restored i torn it down restored the tin,moter,painted,ect.but when i torn i down i took the magneto off put it back on but now it won't start i checked to see if it is getting spark and fuel and it is getting both i took the magneto back off turned itputit back on turned it over and it backfired very very loud si i took the magneto back off and turned it back around now it don't back fire but can't get it to start when i first got it it ran half good. now since i redid it i have nothing even by pullin it down the road trying to catch start it.and also can someone tell me where the tag is on it some tell me it is a wd some tell me it is a wd45 i don't know? also where i can get parts?also it has a hand crank on the fron't to start it but also electric start uf that help you tell what it is i don't know.this tractor also has to have the lead additive so it is atleast that old?thanks all very much.

You have distriube your magneto timing. He is how I timed a C I used sometime back. These instructilns assume you have not taken the larger cap from the mag. First remove number one spark plug. Turn the engine until the piston is at top dead center with both valves closed. After you have the piston at TDC turn the crank a little more. Less than a 1/16th of a turn. Do this with the mag removed from the engine. Now, Remove the small cap from the mag., the one the wires go into. Turn the mag until the rotor points to the 10 o"clock position. You will note a rectangular projection in the cap at this point. You should also have the impluses caught at this point. Next put the mag. on the engine with the top of the mag rotated toward the engine. Now with the bolts loose that holds the mag. to the engine, slowly turn the mag. clockwise until the impulses "snap". Next tighten the mag bolts and the engine should run. The reason for the slight turn of the crank after you are at TDC is if you handcrank the engine it will be less likly to "kickback"

Wow, a lot of questions.

1) Magneto timing. Search this post. There were several postings answering the question a short while back.

2) Serial number location. Standing at rear of tractor. A machined area directly below the right brake cover plate.

3) Where to get parts. Local auto parts store will carry a lot of engine parts and bearings. AGCO will have most Allis Chalmers parts.

4) Gasoline. Cheapest regular grade of fuel. Lead additive. Not necessary.

Serial number is in the machined area behind the left brake drum cover and about 2 - 3 inches below the brake drum cover on the differential - as your are standing behind the tractor.

Sorry, It struck me a couple of hours later that I had my right and left mixed up.

thanks all for the replys i took the magneto off and took it apart to see if the points are opening and closing they are but now i don't have any spark can any tell me the firing order and how to put this back in time with the motor?thanks all
