Difference between a wd and wd 45

I was wondering what the difference is between a wd and a wd 45. I have a wd 45 narrow front at home and I have found a wd with a wide front in pretty good shape for 300 bucks. I am going to buy it, but I was wondering if the parts would interchange. Im using it for my FFA project. Thanks

Another difference is the air cleaners. The seat beam is curved on a 45, straight with a bend on a WD. Don't remember hearing about differential parts differences before, I will have to look at my parts book as it generally states at what serial no. the difference happened, or tells if it is when the switch to 45 was made.

Don't you enjoy it when someone jumps in first and pretty much shows that they have no idea what they are talking about. This isn't a game show where someones needs to buzz in quick with a wild guess in hopes of winning a prize.

When I needed spider gears for my WD differential, the WD45 that I found "for parts" had larger, heavier spider gears in the differential that would not fit in mine. Just my experience.

45's had the 4.5 in stroke; crater pistons; higher compression; Bigger radiator; Different trans, throatier manifold; different carbeuration; 13 in rims for 14.9 tires; sturdier axles & final drive. Did have the same hood shape as a WD!

The wide front for a WD will definitely fit a WD45; but the earlier wide fronts had only three bolts attaching the front pivot plate to the main casting. Later ones had four bolts, and are just a little more desirable.

ONLY THING IS DIFFERENT IS THE MOTOR AND GEAR SHIFTER THE 45 MOTOR HAS A HALF IINCH BIGGER STROKE AND THE WD45 GEAR SHIFTER IS CURVED THATS ALL THE PARTS WILL WORK ON BOTH

THe transmission difference is more than just the curved shifting lever. THe transmission with the curved lever is a constanst mesh unit with helical cut gears. The straight lever is a sliding gear transmission with straight cut gears. Totally different transmissions inside. Also, about the last year of WD production had the constant mesh transmission.
