My 1951 WD will not start on these snow filled days in michigan. If the weather is cold but dry it will fire right away. It does sit out side due to no room in the garage. I also try to cover the tractor with a tarp to keep it dry. If anyone has any ideas on how I can fix this, please let me know!!!

Brian

Other than balin wire, duct tape an a few tarp straps a can of wire dry is my best friend. I used to plow snow with the pick up and sometimes even after 2-3 hrs (engine running 100%) a certian wind would blow snow from a big drift and would drown the engine to a complete stall. It would take longer to pop the hood than to spray the distributer cap with wire dry. Not so much as a backfire it was back on the road again, instant starting and 100% power. Works good when I power wash the old tractors. Dave NE Ia

When was the last time you tuned it up? Just might need a good tune-up whether it's mag or distributor. If it's a mag, make sure the gaskets for the lower cover and upper end cap cover are in good shape. Poor or no gaskets let all the moisture in the mag and it won't fire for you. An old set of points or a old set of spark plug wires could also easily be the culprit for that condition. We have the tune up parts for either ignition if you find that's what it is. Drop us a line....

If your WD has a mag, your caps my be porous. I have sealed mag. cap with clear acrylic paint.
