power steering cavitation

hearing cavitation in the power steering valve. There's oil, fairly new filter, maybe 20 hours on it, and no noticible noise from the pump. Hear (loud) noise only in the steering valve. This is on a 7020.

Any idea what the problem is?

Have you recently changed the differential hydraulic filters? If you have, then did you remove the screen from the inner end of the left hand filter and install it on the new filter. If you didn't then the ant-drain check valve will not be pushed open enough to let enough oil into the filter for correct operation and that could cause the cavitation noise that you are hearing. If you did change the screen, then you will need to check the left hand filter to see if it has been partially crushed by comparing it to a new filter. Another thing to check is to see if the bar inside the filter housing that pushes the anti-drain check valve open is either bent or broken and not opening the check valve enough to get a good flow of oil. Last but not least is to make sure that there is enough oil in the rear of the tractor. It is sometimes hard to tell if there is oil in the sight glasses so to be sure you can unscrew the sight glasses from the side of the housing to be sure that the oil is up to that level. I recently had a tractor in my shop that was losing its steering after a few minutes of running and that was the problem that I found. It only had about 12 quarts of oil in the rear when I drained the oil and the customer thought that the rear was full. Good luck.
