After receiving great insight to my AC b knocking symptom, I pulled the oil pan and examined each bearing and rod journal. The top bearings were all flaking, the bottoms were intact. The crank journals seem to be smooth ( #2 has a small scratch ). I have smoothed the journals, measured each journal with a micrometer and replaced the bearings with standard size. My question - is it normal for the top bearings to wear or is it a symptom of something else like a main bearing problem. The B is a 1939. Not sure if bearings are original but I have had the tractor for 15 years and it has never had a problem. thanks

I found the same thing on a '42 C, I would'nt worry about it...just put in new bearings, and use plasti-gauge and remove or add shims the get the clearance to around .002 to .0015....make sure you get the rods in the correct way...check your manual

Did you check the bearing clearance with plastigage? You should not have much more than .002 clearance. If you have not checked the clearance, I would not start the engine. I personally have never been able to replace a bearing on a rod that has been knocking.

I'm guessing it is and oil pressure, blockage problem?, Although whers the bearings which you removed a pair or did some joker replace the bottom bearing and not the top for some reason?
