can someone tell me the proper way to set the points gap on my d17?

Here you go from the book; Remove distributor cap, rotor and dust cover.Rotate the engine until the peak of the cam lobe is contacting the breaker arm, and points are at their widest position. Loosen the locking screw, and turn the cam screw to get the .022" point gap. Retighten locking screw and measure point gap with feeler gage. If filing contact points do so before adjusting gap. If replacing with new points lubricate cam with a light grease. It is also a good idea to replace the condenser at the same time. Timing should be checked and reset, if necessary, when installing new points. (25 degrees BTDC) Hope this helps!
