Model B Buring Oil

I have a 1947 model B that seems to burn some oil. If I were to guess, it would be about 1/2 a quart every 8-10 hours of use. Is this excessive? Do I need to be concerned? Does running a different weight of oil matter? Are certain brands better than others for this type of situation? Is there a quick fix for this problem? Thanks in advance for everyones responses. You have all been extremely helpful in the past.

You might try putting some umberella seals on the valve stems. Especially if it smokes at an idle. They are not hard at all to put on.

The seals are automotive type seals. Don't know what year car, if you check with the auto repair facitlites around, they probably have some left from overhaul kits,that will fit the stems in you C. They just slip over the stem and look like an umberella. You need to pressure the cylinders with air to hold the valve, and remove the valve spring to install. Relatively easy.

Yes some oils seem to burn/run by the rings faster then other. Guess thats why I run stright weight oils only. If you have problems run a 40W oil and you may slow down the burning
