I know of an Allis 175 with the diesel (Perkins?) engine. It was supposedly struck by lightning, and the wiring burnt out. (I would also have to guess the charging system as well maybe the starter?) I know mechanically it wasn't well looked after the previous few years, it's in need of tie rod ends and the like. I don't know what sort of shape the engine is in, anything that I can look for that might give me an idea? It's not seized, but has been sitting for a couple years since the lightning strike. Any other weak points on this tractor to look out for? What sort of money would it be worth, as is, and fixed up back to a decent operating condition. The other option may be to part it out, is there a lot of demand for parts for these? I guess when I'm asking, I should also find out what sort of weight it would be, just in case I do make a deal for it.

Thanks,
Mark

my nephew was doing some field work for his grandpa when he got struck by lightening. He was in the cab, so he wasn't hurt, but it blew both rear tires. Don't think it did any other harm.

Since Agco still had wiring harnesses for 170s a few montha ago, I expect they still have "em for 175s.

Pricy, though: Over $500 for my 170G. . .

Lightning can do some wierd things. Don't know if it could cause any kind of arcing internally that would harm bearings, but I wouldn't pay much for a machine that got electrocuted and then left out in the weather for years. Other than that it's probably a fine machine.

Nebr Test #1043. In 1970, tractor serial #1079.
62.47 pto hp, 54.06 drawbar hp, weights; unballasted 5925 lbs, ballasted 8400 lbs, Perkins 4cyl 236" diesel, 6.50x16 & 16.9x28 tires. I think the rear 1/2 of tractor is basically a D17V. They put a perkins engine and new tin on them. We never had 175, but over the last 30 yrs. had 2 180's, a 190, & still have a 200.
hope this helps.

I can't help you on all of your questions as I've never owned a 175. The 175 was tested at Nebraska in 1974, test #1156. It has a 226 cu in engine like the D17 but delivered 60.88 hp compared to D-17 at 50.34. The 175 weighed 6390 compared to D-17 at 6451. However, the published weight by Allis is 5300 on the D-17. I think the 1151# difference is ballast in rear wheels (water). Without water in tires the 175 probably weighs about 5300.
