I have a WD45 which starts as long as I use the foot cluch. When running and I leave off on the foot cluch it kills the engine everytime (the tractor does not seem to move at all in the process - I can push the tractor when it is not running with shift in neutral). It does have hydraulics which I suspect is affecting the problem. Althought I change the lift lever both up and down that does not seem to impact on the killing of the engine. I tried to use the hand cluch but that also does not change the situation. I did recently change the starter as initially the engine did not turn over in the sub zero weather we had. Any suggestions?

To those that took the time to respond to my difficulty starting the WD45, Thanks. It was ice in the transmission, because as soon as the weather warmed up the tractor started. I drained the oil from the transmission/differential and some water was mixed the oil. Again, I appreciated the responses.

Take the sparkplugs out, and try turning the engine over with the foot clutch let up..see if you can eliminate things till you find the problem... I hope it is not the PTO gears.... Does it shift OK otherwise..?? Has it been OK up until you changed the starter..?? Ron..

2 thoughts. You have ice in the transmission or the transmission is stuck in 2 gears.

I have seen the hydraulic system load the engine when it was not adjusted right. Check the linkage adjustments on the side of the pump unit. You need a manual to do it. I don't know if out of adjustment would cause the engine sto stall though.
