181 horsepower. From reports I've heard, a 7060 will do almost as much work and last much longer. If you keep a 7080 trottled back to 22-2300 rpm, it will last much longer than running at the 2550 rated RPM.

Good info, thanks. 181 hp....will that tractor handle a 14 foot tandem disk? Just kidding, I better be looking for bigger implements, huh?

I would be more interested in the theory of running it at lower rpm. Why is this?

I just bought one that needs some work but the engine is "supposed" to be sound. It is not too bad, just been neglected/abandoned for a couple of years.

I haven't seen this first hand, but have heard from mechanics that the engine is just spinning too fast. When they went to the 8070 they slowed RPMs down to 2300 and this greatly increased durability. Guys that have slowed down their 7080 claim better fuel efficiency also.
