HD6 production stopped around 1974, and at some point Fiat took over (I think). So, since you say you've got a 1978, I'm not sure exactly what we're talking about. HD6 has a Buda 344 cubic inch engine. Early engines have precombustion chamber design, and later ones are direct injection and referred to as model 6000 engines. The earlier engines have American Bosch injection systems, I'm not sure about the later. Static timing is done by getting the engine on TDC of the compression stroke for #1 cylinder, then lining up the marks on the flywheel with the pointer until the "FPI" marks align. Pull the little trap door off in front of the injection pump and make sure the injection pump pointer is aligned with center timing mark on the drive gear hub. The governor is easily adjusted from the outside with a srew and locknut. The company that made the engine is still in business. Their website is at: Link
