I am going to buy this tractor from a friend this coming week. I would love to have you guys send me all of the photos of your restored/over-hauled WD's. Most of the photos in the gallery were taken with very poor lighting and/or resolution too low so that is of no help to me.

I basically know absolutely nothing about them so anything you can clue me in on I would appreciate. Items such as manuals, books, parts sources, websites, Allis-Chalmers History etc. would be greatly appreciated as well.

One thing I need to know very quickly is I have to tow this thing 450 miles. I have a F350 Crew Cab Powerstroke so that shouldnt be a problem but what to put it on is another matter. How much does this tractor weigh and would a normal car hauler work?

Joe

I started on my 1950 WD about this time last year and completed the restoration in about 4 mos. I found this site invaluable when I ran into problems or had questions. Most of the things you will run into, the guys on this site have seen many times. Manuals are a must. I got mine from Sandy Lake Implement. Really nice people.

You'll need a tandem axel trailer. They are usually rated at 5000# or heavier. I've hauled a bunch of these on mine.

I forgot to say, watch the width, a WD can be pretty wide if the tires are set out wide. And if the cams are rusty they won't move in very easy either. In thes case maybe you could swithc the wheels side to side to narrow it up a bit, or just flip them around even though the tread pattern would now be backwards.

A WD is about 3500 LBS. If the tires are loaded it is probably more like 4500. Check the capacity of trailers you are thinking of using. Findout if the tires are loaded. Does the tractor have anything that would add weight like a loader, wheel weights, plow, etc.? Maybe you could put the extras on the turck if they come off the tractor easily, if you are close to the capacity of the trailer or over capacity.
