Bobby, don't know if I can point you directly at the answer. I need a little more information. Is your tractor battery ignition? If it is, a small discharge when the engine is off and the ignition is turned on is normal. This discharge shows the current needed for the iginition. It should show 0 charge with the ignition off. If you have magneto ignition, there should be no discharge whether the tractor is running or not except if the lights are on. If you have a discharge when the ignition is off on a battery ignition tractor, your cutoff relay is not working properly. (this is also true for magneto ignition) If you have a regulator, one of the coils in the regulator is a cutoff. If there is such a discharge, either the regulator or cutoff relay is bad. You also haven't said you have a generator but I assume you have. If you have an alternator, it is necessary to switch off the field current when you turn off the tractor. If the field is left on, it will discharge the battery. Another piece of info would be helpful. Does the battery crank the engine well if you stop it after use and immediately try to start it? If it does, this is an indication that the generator(alternator) is functioning properly (though it could still be over-charging). One last item, if the generator or alternator are charging at full current all the while you are running the tractor, the regulator has failed and this condition will destroy the battery after a period of time. It basically boils the battery to death. If you have a good voltmeter, measure the voltage of the battery when it is running and showing a charge and been running for 54 minutes. It should be between 13 and 14.5 volts. If it is over 15, this is bad for the battery - overcharge condition. My email is open.
