I want to turn my dads trip buck loader into a fully functional front end loader. I do not know the model of this loader bur it appears to be a AC trip loader. It uses the tractors hydraulics to lift the front loader but they are only one way cylinders which is ok. I want to add hyd's so I can have double acting cyliders to actuate the front bucket. Mounting cylinders will not be a problem but what have you guys done? Can I do this and how hard will it be? What would be a good size bucket to get made for the front? It has a blade on it right now and the bucket we have is a manuer bucket. I can fad a bucket for the front but how wide should it be?
also I know it would need power steering can I still get a power steering kit for this?

With enough time and money you can do almost anything. The question sometimes is, is it worth it?

To add the hydraulic features onto a tractor I already have with almost a complete loader I would say yes it is worth it since I am not buying $5,000 plus tractor.

Time will tell. I"m pretty sure you"ll find it is neither cheap nor easy to add a second hydraulic pump. If you don"t add a second pump then you will loose the independent hydraulics during the time you are changing gears. You change gears frequently using a loader. If you try to do this without using the foot clutch you will soon have transmission problems. Power steering is another fairly expensive issue to deal with, and if you put a big bucket on that loader you are going to need powersteering. Then if you don"t already have a wide front on the tractor you are going to have to have one of those. If you try and use a big bucket loader with a narrow front, light weight tractor like the WD you better have your life and accident insurance paid up. You can put a V8 and a 5th wheel on a Harley Davidson, but that ain"t going to make it a road tractor.

I've run a narrow front H with an 8' bucket and no power steering for years. The bucket alone is so heavy it takes three men and a boy to lift the thing. Piled snow as high as the barn and never come close to tipping it, ya just gotta use common sense. Don't try turning with the bucket in the air.

This year I'm using a WD-45 wide front no power steering and a 7' bucket. Haven't had trouble with tipping or steering on it either.

You have two choices- either use the internal hydraulic system via the remote coupler feeding a pair of valves to run the loader, or add a second pump and pair of valves to run the loader. Best setup is to add a front mount pump, resevoir, and valves to create a separate system. There is room under the radiator to add another pump, coupling it to the crankshaft pulley, with a stub shaft welded into the pulley, and machined true to attach a coupler. (Either Lovejoy or double roller chain). It's easier to add channel iron to the frame, move the steering pedestal forward (using two old holes and two new ones in the C-iron). Adds about 8 inches to tractor length and gives you room to work in. Make sure you match the pump pressure capability to the loader cylinders. I reversed a WD many years ago, and with the second pump setup I put in, I extended the frame. Reversed WD with loader on the back gives excellent traction- it is only a loader tractor then. Reversed means reversing the differential gear to give four speeds rear, one forward, reverse the seat and all controls. Most manure buckets are built to sit within the loader side frames, about 40 inches wide, and you might need two cylinders with about 20 inch stroke to tip the bucket. Add brackets above the bucket, on the side frames, to match the cylinder stroke. Location is determined by tipping the bucket, allowing for the bucket to dig below horizontal a few inches. Another front pump option is to buy a two groove pulley for power steering, and hang the pump below the tractor, but the pulley is boo-coo bucks. Welding the stub and machining the pulley should be less.

It works great for me but the 3-point acts different then before. Since the 3-point is on a valve its always on hold. If I let it down to the ground with a blade then you hit a low spot its up off the ground. Doesn't float like before. The dump bucket works great and is faster then I thought it would be. The only problem I have is the remote line not being on a valve but have figured out if I pull the bucket all the way up I can use that to build pressure in the remote.

Yes I want to use the factory hyd's to run this loader I think this will be my easiest and cheapest way to do this. How do you tie into the factory hyd's?

You should have 3 lines out of your hyd pump.
1 to each 3-point cylinder and 1 to remote.
remove the 2 that go to the 3-point and tee them together. plug one of the 1/4 outputs on your pump
the other output runs to the valves. run return line from valves to the drain plug on bottom of hyd. you then feed the hyd cylinders from the valves and the hyd lever on the tractor should run all the time.
