When installing sleeves in a B, should I use aviation gasket sealer under the top flange of the sleeve or anywhere else at the top of the sleeve? I plan to use it around the o-rings at the bottom as the sealing surfaces in the block were very rough. Thanks for your input.

Hi I wouldn't put sealer of any kind on the top end. The head gasket is designed to disipate heat in addition to sealing the top of the cylinder if you put sealer there it will not transfer heat like it should and it will change the crush of the gasket. Thats just my opinion, for what it is worth. If you have any questions e-mail me at [email protected] or give me a call. Hope I helped you out.
Thanks,
:) Jerry

I wouldn"t if I were you, but as I always say, I aint you. The height of the sleeve above the block deck has a close tolerance spec. Any thing that could change the press of the head gasket could give you a head gasket problem. The fiber part of the head gasket seals around the sleeves as well as needed. The metal ring in the head gasket is designed to crush or flatten to seal the firing chamber. Changing this crush might not cause a head gasket to fail but I would not take the chance.

It won't hurt anything, if you aply it sparingly.

I wouldn't slop it on..

The Main thing is to have the recess for the sleeves real clean... Use Plenty in the lower water-jacket area, tho.!! Ron..
